Terms of Use
Effective October 16, 2026
These terms apply to the Kinwarn iPhone app and to kinwarn.com (together, “Kinwarn”, “we”, “us”). By using them, you agree to these terms. For the app, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
Kinwarn is a second line of defense
Kinwarn passes on warnings issued by the U.S. National Weather Service. It is not an official warning system and is not affiliated with the National Weather Service or NOAA. Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts turned on, keep another way to get warnings such as a NOAA Weather Radio, and always follow instructions from local officials.
Alerts can be late or fail to arrive. Causes include delays at the source, loss of internet or cell service, power outages, iPhone settings such as Focus or notification permissions, Apple’s push service, phone carriers, and our own systems. Arrival times and distances are estimates based on the storm motion the National Weather Service reports, and storms can change speed and direction. If you have any reason to believe you are in danger, take shelter. Do not wait for Kinwarn.
The same applies to the maps, warnings and storm history on kinwarn.com: they are for general awareness, can be delayed or incomplete, and are not official warnings.
Wake-up calls (Kinwarn Plus)
- Only add your own number, or the number of someone who told you they want Kinwarn to call them. When you add someone else’s number, the app asks you to confirm that they said yes, and we keep that confirmation. Each person must also agree during a verification call before we call them for alerts.
- If a phone number you added changes or stops being used, update or remove it in the app right away. A number someone stops using can be given to a stranger. We check numbers against the FCC’s reassigned numbers database, and anyone who gets a call meant for someone else can press 7, but neither catches every change.
- Anyone can stop all Kinwarn calls to their number by pressing 9 during a call (or 7 if we called the wrong number), by calling our number and pressing 9, or by emailing us. After that we do not call the number again, even if someone adds it again, unless the person calls our number and presses 1.
- Calls go only to U.S. phone numbers, and we limit the number of calls per number per day.
- Phone carriers or iPhone settings such as Silence Unknown Callers can block a call or label it as spam. Kinwarn shows you how to save our number and let it ring, but whether a call rings is outside our control.
Kinwarn Plus purchases
- Plus is sold through Apple as a yearly subscription with a 7-day free trial, a monthly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- “Lifetime” means for as long as we offer Kinwarn Plus, not for the life of a person or a device. If we ever stop offering Kinwarn, we will tell you in the app first.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel them in your Apple Account settings. If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged.
- Apple handles refunds under its own policies.
- Alerts for your home stay free. Every weather warning and evacuation order for the place you mark as Home is sent to you as a notification for free, and we will never move them behind a paywall. Without Plus you can still see the warnings for all your saved places in the app. Notifications for more places (such as family homes), phone calls, email and other extras are part of Plus.
Acceptable use
Do not interfere with our servers, scrape or resell data from them, use Kinwarn to harass anyone, or add the phone number of anyone who has not agreed to be called.
Weather data
Weather information comes from the National Weather Service and other NOAA sources, which are in the public domain. We shorten and reformat warnings to make them easier to read.
No warranty
Kinwarn is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any injury, loss or damage arising from an alert that was late, missing or wrong. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Changes
We may update these terms. We will change the date above, and if a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
